How Come Water Evaporates When On A Surface But Not In A Cup?

I can spill a cup of water on the floor and it will evaporate in a few hours, but if I leave it in a cup it stays there.

WHAT'S GOING ON!?

part of it is also that air won't flow as quickly over the water in a cup since it's recessed within the cup (unless you fill it to the brim), further reducing evaporation rate.

The spilled water has a greater surface area exposed to air than the cup of water does. This makes the spilled water evaporate faster.

Youse guys know the OP posts stupid shit like this all the time...then never comes back.

That's not true... he comes back frequently to most something equally nutty.

I am curious how Gizmo is making out with his Computer Engineering degree. He should be half way to his dream job at NVidia designing GPU's by now, right?

When water is spilled on a surface it also gets absorbed, but also surface area plays a role. If you take your bath towel and put it in a ball it's never going to be dry by next shower, but if you hang it and stretch it out it will dry within a few hours.

Since 2018 I've been on house arrest for threatening a police station, but I get out in 2 months and then I will pursue my degree in computer engineering so I can work with GPUs at either Nvidia or AMD

All these rubes got it wrong. It's because when water is in a cup, it's reflected onto itself by the walls of the cup. This reflection increases the amount of water by the rate of evaporation, so by the time 1/3 of the cup evaporates, 1/3 of it would have been re-introducted by reflection.

1) Less surface area
2) Is what fralexandr posted:

3) Related to #2, but as the water evaporates, the air above the water in the cup is more humid leading to less evaporation. This isn't exactly the same as #2 because fralexandr was talking about the air flow aspects that help keep the evaporation less.

LOL, I'm sure nVidia or AMD is going to hire someone with a criminal record who post the most inane shit on the forum. I know you're trolling and that's why I suggested all of your post live as a collective in a single thread. It's just not funny anymore.

You made quite an assumption about how often ATOT posters shower.

I can get my record expunged in 2025, this is also my first offense.

And by the time I get my degree my record will be cleared.

Because he cross-posts every thread of his to Tom's Hardware too?
(or he did, been a while since I checked though)
