How come the name 'Nigel' never made it in America?

Of all the English names that came over, Nigel, despite its popularity in Britain, is nonexistant in America. Why?

There were a whole bunch of Nigels, they just got the shit beat out of them, and never managed to breed. Everyone knows this.

It did make it over but it died out along with the rest of the 19th Century.

Us Americans like to make up our own names, got it!? Shaneekwa and Nahoje, yes.. Nigel and Cholly, no.

FSU has two linebackers that came in last year, Nigel Bradham and Nigel Carr. That's two out of 84 (or whatever) scholarship players. I think Nigel is on the rise.

For a serious answer: It's probably for the same reason that the name Basil didn't catch on here either.
