How come some forums only show one page of topics?

I noticed that some forums seem to have only one page of topics.
For example in Software for Windows it only shows Pg. 1 with no way to get to page 2. At first I thought there were ony enough recent threads for one page, but it happens in other threads like Operating Systems which should have many pages of recent threads. Some categories like Off Topic work fine, showing the option to go to page 2, etc.
Is it just me that's seeing this or is it something in my settings?

Actually that was part of my problem. Your link displayed "this category contains no topics" and did not show a link to start a topic.
However, I found the problem. In my profile it was set to "Days back to view topics for: 2"
I upped the number and now things are working.

Wow I had always wondered this, too, I figured it was to prevent old topic bumping. thanks for the idea!
