How come people don't know the difference between the internet and the content on their computer?

I told my roommate to save the pics he wants to keep from his E-mail to the HD to free up the space in his E-mail account (it can only hold 3M). He then deleted the E-mail and I asked where he save the files to... he just said 'dunno'. I search the HD and I couldn't find em even though I made a folder specificly for his files. I then proceeded to show him how to do it (again). I asked where all his pics went and he said said he thought they got saved... I asked 'where?!?!' (again). I explained that the internet is not contained on your computer so if you want to keep something you have to save it. For some reason he though since it was in his E-mail (web-based), he thought everything was on the HD!

Sorry if my rant doesn't make any sense it's just that some people confuse the hell out of me! I have shown my roommates how to save a file at least 20 times and they still ask for help! ARGH

I don't expect people to know HOW a computer works or whats up with the latest hardware trends, but I think we live in an age where most people should know how to use a computer. Most people know how to click on the big E icon and look for pron and that's about it.

Why can't we go back to DOS when these people were afraid to use computers

You obviously don't understand the proper techniques for 'hard' learners.

What you have to do is quite simple...

* Show them what needs to be done. Calmly.
* Then follow up the lesson by SCREAMING in their ear, followed by a solid middlefinger-knuckle charlie horse to the thigh.

It's important that they don't know this is coming, that way it will be properly BURNED into memory.

The chances are slim that repeat 'lessons' will be necessary.
