Poor people want freebies (to eat and so forth) and threaten my Social Security and Medicare!

Republicans built an angry base. That base turned on them and now they have Trump. Played with fire and got burned. The Tea Party now has someone they can support, so no need to split.

Trump just proved what the rest of us knew about the Tea Party all along. That if you just go full racist, you'll gain Tea Party support in droves. Did anyone ever really believe the Tea Party's reasoning was anything other than racist? Come on, no one is THAT gullible.

Some are that gullible. Everybody knows it is racist to not want your 10 year old boys raped at the local pool. Everybody knows that it is racist to point out the fact that the welfare state has destroyed the inner cities. Yes everybody knows that your ilk will flush the entire country down the toilet and shout "racist" at anyone attempting to stop you.

GOP and Democrats both call for spending other people's money, but at least they admit that they have to pay for it through taxes (some more than others). The TEA party also wants to spend (their war policies will likely spend more than either the GOP or Democrats would spend), but wants to not pay taxes on the debts created.

The tea party was born when Fox News launched a cross country bitch session after the 2008 election. Obama hadn't even taken office yet when Fox and the Reps started rallying the sore loser Republicans that formed the core of the tea party. The tea party never was anything more than a sub-brand for the party, giving the party leadership some distance when the party base ranted in embarrassing ways on TV.
