i think after upgrading the bios to my laptop or upgrading drivers for my gf2 card, the windows XP start up screen (the part where it says windows XP with the windows logo and the blue loading status bar scrolls from left to right) does not appear full screen. it looks like it's running 640x480 resolution. how do i fix it?

sometimes there is a bios setting to stretch the image to fill the whole screen. you might look for something like that. i had that problem on one previous laptop.

The 640x480 is "by design" since Windows doesn't know about your graphics card and monitor until it finishes loading drivers and detecting hardware, i.e. while it is starting up.

Your BIOS update may have disabled automatic upscaling of 640x480 to the LCD native resolution, you can always go into the BIOS and change it if the black border fills your soul with torment.
