How come my Verizon Business DSL is so slow?

I have had Verizon Business DSL for about 5 years, or so. My connection has been slower than ever for about the latter half of this year. I used to be on the 1500/384 plan and when I ran the NYC Speakeasy test, I used to get speeds that were very close to these values. Also, my service "felt" faster and pages loaded up very quickly.

Now in these past 6 months, I have gotten a lot of slow downs and I was even upgraded to 3000/784 for free a couple of months ago. Pages take forever to load, but download speed seems comparable to before, IMHO. Also, now when I run the NYC Speakeasy test, I get about 950/384.

I was going to reinstall Windows XP and reformat the HDD in case it was a virus or too many junk programs, but in my house this PC is running great. I have OOL in my house, so it's theoretical max is 10000/1000. I have several PC's in my house and am currently using all of them. My NYC Speakeasy score for that was 7658/921 almost right now, althought I have scored over 9000 download speed before.

Anyway, my home cable speed should only be about 3 times faster than my business DSL speed, but it feels about 50 times faster. Why is this? Also, why has the DSL speed been so slow, even though my speed should have doubled?

Thanks for any help.

The condition of Wiring in most buildings in Manhattan is terrible.

I would start with calling Venison and let them make sure that what is coming out of the wall is OK.

TazExprez, Google for "Westell Diagnostic Icon" - both the programs and how to use it. Please post your noise margin and error stats.

We have a client in Brooklyn with the same problems. We switched them over to RoadRunner. Better speeds and 5 static IP's. I forget the price difference but it wasn't drastic.

Roadrunner is very reliable. Manhattan area bandwidth is sooo sluggish. Make the transition and you will be happy. Even if its a couple extra bucks you will surf peacefully!

I have the same problem here in north west Indiana with the verizon home dsl. I have the 1500MBs service and I am getting 100-350 kps My upload is where it should be 340-370 kps. I have tried Speakeasy Chicago and PcPitstop.com both with similar results. I spoke to two other people who are having the same problem.
