I get DSL and phone service from Bell south. EVERYTIME i use my phone, i lose my internet connection. and i get LOTS of static in 5 sec bursts every few min.

Bell south says they run tests on the line and everything checks out ok. :( :disgust: they've done this a couple of times.

WHAT'S WRONG?

Do you have filters installed on all of your phones?

Some phones will generate interference that will disrupt the part of the frequency band that DSL runs on.

Mine did the same thing for a while 2. Get a filter, if that doesn't help try switching to another jack.

I did and Mine works flawlessly.

They should have sent you the little filters... if not, you need to call and ask for them.

ALL phone jacks that have a phone need a filter??? not just the one that has DSL coming from it?

Every jack that has a phone plugged up needs a filter. Period.

I'm surprised nobody here has recommended you use filters - that will probably fix it.

Umm...you don't have a filter plugged into the jack your modem plugs into, do you? Just the jacks with telephones (and faxes and analog modems) need filters, not the modem!

i was gonna ask that, but if he had filtered the jack that goes to his modem, would he still get internet access??

I was at a client's office that had plugged a filter into the jack their modem was plugged into. They had access, but it was slow. Also Verizon ran a line test and picked up lots of noise (because of the filter, after I removed it, it was fine).

Have you tried putting the filters on?

I'd try 2 in line filters (one on top of the other) & connect directly to your modem with them, putting the filters on your phone is for sissies that can't stand the static...

The filters normally have 2 outs - one for a dls line and one for a phone... so if he put a filter on the dsl line but plugged it in the right out, then his connection would still work fine... a lot of the older filters have only one out though..... all the recent (last 6 months) dsl installs I've done had the newer filters.....

If you are somewhat savvy with telecom and wiring, I'd dissect one of those inline filters (not the ones that connect to your phone line and then have two out jacks, one for the phone, one for DSL) and wire it directly to the network interface. That way you don't have to put a filter in every jack in your house.

Not that I have DSL anymore, but I did this at my house when I did have DSL and it worked fine.

i have a filter on the jack that my dsl comes in at. that filter has 2 ports, 1 for analog line and the other for dsl modem.

now i need to call up bellsouth and ask for a few more filters for EVERY phone jack in the house.
