How Come Most Cajun/Creole Restraunts Are Operated By Chinese People?

Outside New Orleans, most cajun/creole restraunts seem to be in mall food courts. Every single one I've seen was owned and operated by Chinese people.

Often times they are next to a Chinese fast food restraunt, and sometimes they share items. i.e. you can get lo-mein with your bourbon chicken at the cajun place, and spicy cajun potatos with your general tso's chicken at the chinese place.

I'm a single guy who can't cook, so I've eaten in many a mall food court.

Anyway, what's up with this? Is there some cajun-chinese connection I'm not aware of?

This has got to be the first instance of an ethnic business being dominated by a (very) different ethnic group.

That's funny, I just got back from my local mall and noticed that the cajun fast food joint there was being run by asians. Weird.

There is an Indian Restaurant in a mall nearby where I live called "A Touch of India" As you can guess, it's run by Chinese.

This only applies to Cajun/Creole places in mall food courts. Of course they are run by Asian people...some Asian guy came up with the original franchise idea. Notice how they all have Chinese-style pricing too (one meat, one vegetable with rice = $4.99 combo special!)

because many of the food places like that, regardless of whether or not they're creole, they could be greek or mexian or whatever...often run by asians

if you're in berkeley check out the asian ghetto (just a little grouping of ethnic food places) none of them are run by their respective ethnicities...quite humourous

Well, I've never seen that before. That is pretty unusual, as there's not a shortage of Indian small business owners, most of whom come up with the idea of a restraunt before anything else.

I got a little chuckle at the mall a couple weeks ago because the Sarku Japan was staffed solely by hispanics, but the Cajun place right next to it was staffed by asians.

Here in San Francisco, there are many Japanese Restaurants owned and operated by Chinese folks. There are also a few Chinese-Vietnamese people operating family style Italian-American food and it is pretty damm good! Imagine ordering lasagne and a large bowl of pho at the same time.

I remember about 15 years ago, there was a contest about the best fried chicken in SF. A Chinese restaurant in Chinatown took the best honors and I thought that a African-American operated restaurant would take the prize.

My bad...

In NYC, one of the keys to finding good sushi is to find a joint owned and operated by Japanese. It's surprising how many sushi spots are run by Chinese.
