How come Japanese restaurants in the US don't ever have yakisoba?

Yeah, it's street food, but it was the best food ever in Japan.
and real homemade Ramen, too.

No one ate sushi and hibachi everyday,
but thats all you see in Japanese resataurants in the states.

US Chinese and Korean restaurants usually have a much broader menu
(cheap stuff and expensive delacacies)

Wish Japanese ones did.

They have yakisoba in the Japanese places I goto. I live in Tacoma WA and there are about 25-30 places within 10 miles.

Hmmm ... most be available only on the west coast.

BTW... it's fried buckwheat noodles with veggies and meat..

Looks like Lo Mein sorta, but tastes different.

umm...almost all Japanese places here in NYC have it

There's even yakisoba in the limited number of Japanese restaurants here in Austin, but I don't think they're too incredibly good. 😕

I guess there aren't enough Japanese people around here or something.

ARe the restaurants you guys talking about formal waitress/waiter types

or do you have Japanese "order from the counter" type places?

Most [crappy] japanese restuarants are owned by chinese. They have both here in socal. But the waiters at the japanese-owned ones tend to dress up in kimono's and such.

I have yet to see a Japanese restaurant in the US similar to those ramen shop-type places.

order from the counter

I saw yakisoba "kits" at Wal-Mart about six months ago. Less than a buck apiece, which is much cheaper than anything over here in Tokyo.

Pretty much everything in Wal-mart will be cheaper than anything in Tokyo.
