How come i oc my cpu my gfx will have artefacts when gaming?

using a prescot 3.0e and ati aiw 9700pro
and msi neo2-pls

when i run at stock 3.0Ghz, no artefacts when gaming
when i run at 3.6Ghz, will have artefacts when gaming

i never oc my gfx at any time

cpu and mem tested stable for 24hrs using prime95 and memtest86

pci/agp all locked at 33.33mhz 66.66mhz

using hitachi t7k250 on mobo sata port,
change to sata card port oso same problem

its not common right? i mean ppl normally oc cpu never oc gfx shld not have artefacts right

full comp specs

prescot 3.0e cooled using xp-120 and papst 120mm fan
msi neo2-pls
ati aiw 9700pro
kingston hynix bt-d43 512mb x 4
audigy
hitachi t7k250
verudium vortex 430w

also tried changin the gfx to a geforce4 mx, but problem persist

Not suprising.

Prescotts generate an amazing amount of heat.

Having the prescott overclocked may lift its temperature so much that it makes the rest of your system higher in temperature. This may cause your video card to artifact.

It seems almost stupid to overclock that much. Have you tried overclocking it a bit less and looking for artifacts?

Pretty sure that artifacts aren't completely related to just GPU OCing...i could be wrong.

Advice: don't OC your CPU first...don't OC it as much...
