How come I never see corndogs anymore?

See I grew up in Korea. When I was a kid in late 80s/early 90s, corn dogs were very popular by street vendors (like those sausage carts).

It was never that refried crap. The corn dogs were pale white and drippy with batter right before my eyes.... and then they were deep fried until crispy golden brown. Garnish it with ketchup and it's the pure best fucking shit you can have on a stick.

I never see any of those here. All I see are pre-cooked frozen ones in supermarkets AND even in carnivals or fairs, they're pre-cooked.

WTF!!!!! It's like the WORLD of difference to have a fresh one...

I don't think i've ever had a fresh corndog. I like the ones i've had, at fairs they are the best of course. Is it possible to make your own with a deep fryer at home?

The carnivals that come around where I live make fresh corndogs, and fresh curly fries.. and fresh elephant ears... man, when is the next carnival supposed to be here?

I've never seen a fresh corndog, only the frozen supermarket kind. I'll see if they have any decent ones when the rodeo comes in to Houston later on.

go to an amusement park, they make them fresh there. Cedar Point has particularly good ones. But a lot of hand-made things are being turned into pre-made frozen things.
Cedar Point used to make and hand-roll these amazing pretzels, and only available at one stand in the park (all the other places use those shitty Super Pretzel brand frozen pretzels)... now, while using the same recipe, it seems like they make them somewhere else? and have them frozen and packaged for use in the stand. They still bake them, and they taste the same, just they lost that little hand-twisted touch that made them even more irresistible. :D

Frozen ones are quite tasty if you have a deep fryer. You want fresh, here is 52 different recipes for corndog batter.

See I grew up in Korea.

Every decent American home should have a deep fryer.

The only theme park close to me is New England Six Flags. That place is fun and all, but it's way too commercial to have those 'mom & pop' junk food goodies.

There used to be a Corn Dog 7 at the food court in the mall where I worked once. My arteries will never be the same, but mmmmm nothing like a fresh corn dog

The major tragedy was the elimination of the hot dog/bun steamers the vendors used to carry around at Cleveland Muni. The Jake brought us foil wrapped "fresh" dogs, a cold ass, tough, POS dog on a cold, stale bun. Thankfully you can still get a good steamed dog/bun from the vendors in the street.

What is the new ride Cedar Point announced they will be building?

Dude, this is perfect w/ the french fries thread. Make 'em yourself.

Get a good hot dog or sausage (you'll have to cook the sausage first). Insert stick. Batter it up in whatever cornbread recipe works for you. Fry.

If anything, you just came up with an excuse to buy a deep fryer.

does Hot Dog On A Stick still make them fresh? I remember watching them whip them up when I was younger. I don't love corn dogs but when I have a craving for them it's serious. AND NO CHICKEN FRANKS inside! use a real hot dog daamit :)

Cedar Point is doing two things for 2008:
- Planet Snoopy, a revamped playground that's gonna have like.. 7 new things for the children?
- Skyscraper will be a new Challenge Park ride. Wonder how much it'll cost to ride...

Hot Dog on a Stick and Disneyland Park (Classic and California Adventure) still both have fresh made corn dogs on a daily basis. The ones from Disney are ridiculously good and are about a foot plus long.

You sure those pale white drippy things were corn dogs...may have been just what your memory wanted to create.

Dammit! These threads have to stop! I need to lose some weight, and I loooooove homemade corndogs and fries.

Must not break out the fryer... must not break out the fryer... must not break out the fryer...
