How come I can't load ubisoft games onto my PC?

Hi,

I have tried to load Far Cry and King Kong on to my PC using a Plextor 760 DVD-RW drive to load from and have tried this with old 1.01 firmware and the old Windows 2.0 installer and with 1.04 firmware and the new Windows 3.1 installer.

On the third Disk of five is where I run into trouble

Error 1305. Error reading from F: FarCry/FC Data/Objects.pak

If I hit retry, I get the same error, if I cancel, I get Error 1603..

My specs are:
Windows XP with SP1
AMD X2 4800
Abit AT8 32X
2 GB Corsair PC 4000 (DDR500)
AMD/Ati Radeon 1900XT
Plextor 760 DVD-RW drive

I blame Starforce.

Starforce has nothing to do with the installation of the game.

In rare occasions, some drives just cannot read certain discs. Try doing a straight file copy from the disc to the hard drive. If that works, then burn those files onto a rewritable disc. Install from the rewritable disc. Then when you go to play the game, put the original disc back into the drive so the game can validate it.

Also would be advisable to update to SP2 regardless of this problem.

Farcry doesn't use Starforce. A lot of other Ubisoft games used to, but Farcry wasn't one of them.
