How come I cant get my Memory Frequency above 105mhz?

I recently upgraded my RAM and motherboard, but am sitll using my old 1.4 T-bird. I just now have a ASUS a78nX deluxe with 512 pc2700. But when I boot up, if I set the Memory Frequency above about 105, it gets to the blue windows screen, and then just restarts. If i set it to 133, which I did at first, and my CPU is capable of this...now it doesnt work unless its below that. ???

I checked the voltages, and the +5, was hovering about 4.75....I dnot know if that's making the problem??

I just ordered a new 2500Barton, so if it does that with this one, I'm going to be very confused...

AnY SUGGESTIONS!!?

Miklebud, spend your money on a good power supply, not on another processor. If the power supply you have at the moment came with your case, find another use for it, like to hold papers down on your desk!

Naw, I need the new CPU, and a new PSU is on it's way with that. It was about time I fully upgraded my computer, and for Xmas I'm getting a 9800 Pro. But hopefully that Power Supply will do the trick. If not, I'll be stumped.

That doesnt sound like a PSU problem. However, it COULD be.... if the PSU doesnt fix it, I would RMA the board. try different memory banks as well, maybe one is bad

try updating yur bios (at a stable speed of course) and see if that helps stability at that setting

BAM!!! Apparently that did the trick. Got it up to 133 with no probs. I'm gonna try to run it at the speed (138 or so) that I had it on my old Iwill K266. Gotta try it out before I get my Barton

Well, guess it didnt fix it completely. Still doesnt start up ALL the time. SO I dropped it down to about 120, and havent seen any probs yet. STill not happy that it's not perfect

I wouldn't be happy either. You are underclocking your CPU. My guess is that you don't have things set up on the mobo or in the BIOS correctly. I don't know anything about the mobo in question, but some mobo's have jumpers that determines the range of fsb's, and this in turn determines how the fsb's relate to dividers relating to PCI and AGP speeds. What I'm guessing is that you are clocking your PCI or AGP busses so over spec that some or more of your adapter cards is croaking. So check into whether there is a jumper that changes the 1:1 setting for the system bus from 100 Mhz to 133 Mhz.
