How come I can buy a notebook with a 17" 1920x1080 screen but not a similar desktop LCD?

Does this bother anyone else?

So why can I buy a notebook with a 17" 1920x1080 screen but I can't buy a 17" desktop LCD in the same size and resolution?

Why is the desktop LCD market ignoring high resolution widescreen LCD's?

actually, its 1900x1200 - 16:10

1920x1080 is what LCD HDTVs use - 16:9

but yes, it DOES bother me

i have a 15" laptop screen at 1400x1050; 15" LCD is 1024x768

my next-door neighboor has a 15" also, but his is 1600x1200 . . . you need a 20" LCD to attain that

my friend at school has a 15.4" at a WHOPPING 1900x1200!!! you need at least a 23" LCD to get that!

i think the reason that the desktop LCD market is ignoring high resolution widescreen is because they think that people would want to watch tv, so 768 lines of tv is pretty good

at least the dell 20" is 1600x1050 ?? and other 23/24" are 1900x1200 . . . . .

Very few LCD HDTVs use that resolution and the ones that do are $6000+. Most LCD HDTVs are 1366x768, 1280x768. or 1280x720.

I would presume it is because when using a laptop you are forced to sit about 12" from the screen, while most desktop panels are positioned several feet away from the user's head.

Hmm I don't agree with that, I sit the same distance from my laptop as my desktop LCD. Always have, always will. Keep in mind, I never owned a desktop monitor over 17" though.

I too am very confused why my laptop has a 1920x1200 resolution while the best desktop monitor of similar size is 1280x1024... there's gotta be a good answer
