I don't get it.. almost everyone has a DVD at this point.. and the people who play the high end games almost certianly do.

But, instead of one dvd we are forced to cd swap 2 or more discs!

I dont get it..

This is a problem that never goes away.

I remember having to swap floppies to play a game.
Then I had to swap cds....
soon we will be swapping dvds to play a game.

Get NOCD hacks. I don't steal software but can't stand the aircraft engine spinup of the CD drive everytime I want to play a game and the swapping you mentioned so I download them for every game I own. A good place is megagames.com

I thought GC was using 1.5gb dvd's? And XBOX using special layered DVD's as well?

PC's should certainly have them but with consoles they can make a proprietary medium, so it is cost efficient.. but with PC's they'd have to do CD and DVD releases, which wouldn't be efficient.

GameCube is just using CDs... no DVDs...

They are 1.5gb DVD's... and cheaper than regular DVD's, helping Nintendo save money. Their sh1t may not fly off the shelves but that company is one smart and shrewd business.

Its cheaper to use 4 CDs than it is to have 1 DVD, and the cost does add up. So until its alot cheaper to create DVDs, games arent going to use it.

harder to pirate too

dvds aren't more common because
1) not everyone has a dvd drive
2) license fees for dvd are way higher than CDs

the whole CD protection thing is a waste of money, electricy, resources.

all it does is waste the time of those who bought the game legitimately, if it worked any then why are all the latest games available on kazaa and tons of NO-CD hacks fo every game. not to mention the electricty wasted for the cd to spin up and the electricty wasted having to have the computer on longer because it takes longer to load

and yet those games still take up gigs on the HD

its like that whole "must have huge-mega box to take up all shelf space from competitors" syndrome they've had for years, but more recently they've finally cut down on packaging to mini-boxes because they're cheaper. what a waste of the environment.
