HOW COME DOS SEES ONLY 504MB...

when the BIOS sees 8084MB (even though I have a 20GB Hard Drive)? What can I do to make it see more?

how old is your bios/motherboard? use .. .. EZ-bios .. if this is an older system, you can download the Max-Blast disk utility from Maxtor's website, it will install EZbios ..

I got the software when I got the Hard drive. Should I install with only 520MB installed, then install the software?

no you install ezbios, before you setup your partitions .. if you have made a partition already, just delete it, install ezbios, and make ur partitions, and you should be fine from there ..

You use the Maxblast utility to install it. That should have came on diskette or you can download it from Maxtor's website.

yes when you go through setting up ur drive with ezbios, it will notify you that you should install it, in that case you simply hit yes/no .. its not a standalone program, its part of the maxblast program ..

My problem isn't with the BIOS, which recognizes the drive in auto-configure mode as 8.4GB, which is good enough for me. My problem is dos not giving me the option of seeing more than 504MB. How can I make it see larger drives.

Depending on what DOS version or disk you use, you will not be able to see more than 500 megs. Try getting a DOS disk from www.bootdisk.com

Those versions of DOS will see the larger drive. Older DOS versions do not show drive sizes over 500 megs properly.
