I think candy bars in the past 10 years here have went up a total of mabey 10 cents.
I know they were 55 when I moved here in NY, now they are 65 in the local store.
What about back in the day when a nickel would get you massive amounts of candy.
PH, I remember when they used to cost 10 cents. By the time I was in middle school, they'd gone up to 15-35 cents, depending on what you got. They hit 50 cents, and then started getting smaller, just like Tonec said.
Yup, I remember back (about the late 60's early 70's) when they were 10 cents.
***I hate it that computer keyboards don't have a cents symbol like typewriters do***
Then there was a major sugar shortage and everything with a lot of sugar in it skyrocketed. The three main things I remember are chocolate bars, soda and cereal. When I was a kid, cereal was dirt cheap... now it's rediculously expensive.
Sad thing is that even after sugar prices went down, these foods kept their inflated prices. Think about it.... a candy bar went from .10 to .25... that's a 250% increase! Think about the things you buy on a regular basis going up like this. Energy bills have only gone up on average 50-75% here in the states and people are screaming... imagine if they doubled or tripled!
When I was a kid old enough to walk into a store and buy candy, they were 25¢. Then, when I was a teen, they went up to 35¢. Then they went up to 50¢ and the bars got SMALLER. This really pissed me off. NOW they cost 50¢ at grocery stores and 59¢ at convenience stores. Crap!
