Okay, so I bought the 4S last month but haven't activated it, thinking of selling or maybe putting it on the wife's account.
I bought directly from the Verizon store, went to the Apple Store yesterday to get Applecare Plus. Made the Genius Bar appointment etc, got in, he checked out the phone, went through the process (which seemed extremely cumbersome juggling an iPad and iPhone and wiping info to the point where we got to enter information twice). Anyways, he said it was all done, charged the card, had the receipt emailed to me, and I left.
Checked this evening and the phone shows the standard warranty. Don't see any way to check hardware under Apple ID info. Looking at how to "register Applecare plan" etc I never received anything other than the receipt. I am definitely unfamiliar with the Apple world so not sure of anything at this point.
