Post things that you do that others might consider cheap in the sense of saving money.

I have used the extra space between paragraphs and margins in my spiral ring notebook I bought a year ago in order to avoid having to drive to office depot to buy another and having to spend $1. I mean... the space is there, waiting to be used.

I was running low on coat hangers and didn't want to buy any at the store.

So when I went to Old Navy to buy some shirts, I asked the cashier if they had any plastic hangers they wouldn't mind sparing. He said sure and gave me a trash bag FULL of hangers (probably about 60 or so). Said they were gonna trash 'em anyway so I said I'd take 'em all ;)

So here's me and my GF walking out of Old Navy with a bag w/2 shirts and a trashbag full of plastic hangers :D

If you were really cheap you would return the shirts.

That's not cheap - that's intelligent. :p

Nothing specific comes to mind. I just watch my money like a hawk.
I guess I also buy a lot of store brand or generic branded foods when I shop.

I am cheap with myself...somehow I am not cheap with other people (i.e. I offer to pay when going out with friends, give big tips, etc)

Wouldn't straws melt in the heat?

My stepmom is insanely frugal (nevermind my dad is quite secure financially). She saw that caffeine free diet coke was on sale at the store one day... 2 liter bottles were .79 instead of .99. Know what she did? She bought EVERY BOTTLE in the store; then when she got to the register she asked for the manager; then asked the manager if she could have a rain check on that price so she could buy MORE later on. She drove back home with over 100 2-liter bottles of caff. free diet coke, filled up her trunk and her back seats, so that we didn't have to spend (gasp!) twenty cents more per bottle later on.

How's THAT for cheap?

The only thing I do that could really be considered cheap is making my friends/housemates pay when they do things like printing from my printer, use my stamps...

I wouldn't mind doing nothing... but there is a habit around here where if I buy something, they seem to have a sense of entitlement to it and don't bother buying their own. They think I'm an ass because I make them pay for printing... but they also think I'm an ass if, instead, we split the cost of a new toner cartridge.

When I'm on vacation, if the hotel ever offers a "free breakfast" and they have the small boxes of cereal, I take a few of them and eat them as snacks later.

I re-fill bottles of water and put them in the fridge. I don't care about bottled water. I care about having a nice cold bottle of water.

80% of my clothes come from thrift stores. It's not that I like paying 50 cents for a shirt... it's that I like NOT paying $50 for it.

When I was living in the dorms, my roommate and I would just swipe one of the giagantic rolls of toilet paper from one of the campus bathrooms instead of buying it. We mostly did this after realizing that every girl in the dorm always seemed to want to borrow a roll of toilet paper and never return the favor. Like I'm going to go knocking on someone's door... "Hey.. you know how we gave you a roll of TP? Yeah... I'm gonna need that back."

Just think, she saved $20.00 by buying 100 bottles that will go flat shortly after opening them.

i drove on a leaky tire for six months. would just fill up my portable air tank on the way to work every day. finally had to plug it (nail) the other day. only reason i finally did it was because the gas station busted up the parking lot to add more tanks, and the compressor was off line.

2.00 for the plug kit and about 30mins of work.
