How cheap can I find PCI video cards for?

Salvador

I'm looking to upgrade the graphics on an older system, but there are no AGP slots. Do they still sell PCI video cards and can I get them cheap? I'm looking for something like a 8 mb or a little more maybe.

TIA,

Sal

You should be able to find them if you look around. Pricewatch has a listing for PCI - 16 Mb and they are starting under $40.00 for TNT2 Vanta chipsets. Anandtech mentioned a couple in today's CPU and Video Card Pricing, but they are more expensive. Newegg has an Xpert 98 PCI 8Mb for under $40 also. That should get you started.

Some lowest-end TNT2 PCI cards cost only $15-25, but if you can accept even less performance, there are SiS based cards for the same price but with fewer VIA compatibility problems. Fry's often has Kaser brand cards free after rebate.
