i was wondering if there is any program out there that I can use that shows me how many frames per second I am running so I can tweak my card to its top performance?

there has to be, right? how do they get the fps when they do reviews?

Typically, when you see FPS for a particular program (e.g. Quake III), it's determined within the program. Most newer FPS-type games have some sort of command to allow you to check your frame rate within the game. First, find a program you want to evaluate, then determine the appropriate command. Voila! - FPS.

I believe it's cl_showfps 1 ... but I'm not sure. It could just be showfps 1 or maybe show_fps 1.
