if eggs are rotten? that is, without breaking them etc. i want to make one of those cakes but the eggs in the fridge could be old, i'm not too sure. is there some way i can tell?!

Just break it into a saucer first.
IIRC the theory is if the egg floats in water its rotten if the sucker sinks then use it.

If they are a fuzzy green or move by themselves I don't think you should use them.

When it's the yolk gets hard and almost like rubber...you can't break it easily.

There is: Take a glass/jar/whatever full of water, put the egg in it. If it sinks to the ground, it's ok, if stays on top, it's over (more gas inside).

Anyway, smell after breaking just to be sure... ;)
