I have an Asus TUV4X motherboard. I want to install a Celeron 1gig. The Asus website says its rated for a Pentium 3 1.2gig or a Celeron 900+. Does the 900 "+" mean a higher clocked celeron can be installed? This is something I do not understand. How can you tell what the fastest CPU is that you can install on a motherboard. I also have an Asus CUV4X running a P3 733 and would like to put something faster in it. The manual on this has 833mhz in it but doesn't specifically say what the max is. Please someone, help me understand this!

The TUV4X will support the new Celerons, take a look at the bios page for that board.
The CUV4X will support the 1GHz P3.

With Intel boards, the issue is what family of processors will a given board support with the latest bios. The speed of the chip isn't really an issue, that just reflects the max speed available at the time the bios was written.

So, the tuv4x will support all fcpga coppermine and tualatin processors in either p3 or celeron flavors, except perhaps the latest 1200 celeron, which is new and based on the tualatin core. It should support this one soon, they just haven't written the bios update.

the cuv4x will support all coppermine processors, not tualatins.

At least that's the way I understand it, hope this is of some help.

Check your BIOS what number it has, then go to the BIOS page of your MB and look for your BIOS. It will then tell you what CPU its supporting.

I guarantee that you'll be able to throw in the Celeron 1Gig because it's based on a Celeron 900 which it does support and if u wanted too, you should be able to put a Celeron 1.2 in there also without updating the BIOS because it's based on Tualatin which your board supports.
