How can you tell if the phone # you are calling is local (flat rate) or regional (per minute)?

even tho it might have the same area code, you still might be billed at a regional rate.

i once saw a website that listed that the local prefix #'s you have based on your phone #. but dont remember it.

You have to ask the operator.

I got reamed in the dial-up days because the town right next to me in the same area code was regional. I got a $400 bill and disputed it. They said they'll let me off once but if I did it again, I'll have to pay. So I tried a different POP in a town that was supposedly local with the same area code. I then got another bill of the same magnitude and they told me that only the east side of the town was local the west side is regional. WTF? It's not like the town is a city. It was a small town 1 mile away. Whereas, if I call NYC which is just the Hudson River away, it was flat. Total BS!

not at all... a lot of cities now adays has 10 digit dialing because they ran out of phone numbers and had to start a new local area code. I dial 10 digits and they are all local

That sucks. I'd call my phone company and make them explain it. Of course, I don't have to worry about it at all anymore because I just switched over to Qwest's flat rate plan.
