How can you screw up a BP reading?

I was at plant medical the other day and the nurse there took my blood pressure. I was a little surprised when she said it was 146/56 so I measured it myself today.

I got 109/70 which is closer to my historical BP.

I can't believe that BP can fluctuate that much so she had to have screwed up.

She got 146/56 and did not test you again?

Having a higher blood pressure at the doctor's office is very common. I regularly something like 150/80 'ish. At home I am around 120/?something? More than likely not a mistake.

I HATE the doctors office and I always freak out when I have to go there for any little thing. I always get super high BP readings there, but get 110/70 at home.
They all probably think I have some crazy hypertension and I'm gonna die before I get to be 40.

The last few times I've been to the Dr.s the nurse couldn't get my reading at all. Kinda freaked them, and me out. The doc says some people are harder to take then others whatever that means...

Many people get "White Coat Fever" & it temporarly raises your BP...

Your BP is dynamic & literally changes from minute to minute, depending on many factors.

Is 109/70 good by the way?

On the low side.

Normal should be 120/80

Yes Riprorin, your blood pressure is good. Very good actually.
There really isn't anything too low about it, as long as that is normal for you. 120/80 is a good guide to go by for the general public but new doctor reports are suggesting that a systolic blood pressure between 115-140 could be prehypertension. Let me go find a link.

Here's a link for you.
