So I have an off-site ftp server as a central repository for family pictures. My friend hosts his high-res photos on his site for download. Instead of my downloading his pics from his site and then uploading them to my ftp server is there a way to do this directly. Kinda like download directly to the ftp server. Any help is appreciated.

you can, if the other server allows ftp access also... Or you can RDP to your remote desktop and download the file from your friend server locally on your server.

What kind of remote access do you have to your ftp server? What about your friend and his website?

If he has access to an ftp server, you can use fxp to xfer from ftp->ftp server.

i use a webhost that has ftp access. I usually dump family photo and other stuff that needs to be backed up offsite. My friend just has a basic website that shows a thumbnail of the pic and if you click on the word download underneath it prompts you to save the file to your desktop. He does not have ftp on his server. I am kinda just looking at bypassing downloading the pic to my machine and just to save it directly to my ftp server.

Well, you could always write a script that will download all the files to your local computer and then ftp's them to your server. Very easy to do in Linux world, and still easy in Windows if you know perl :)
