How can you prevent reposession?

I was just thinking about how I see used to see how cars would be reposessed, secretly, in the middle of the night. Are there any creative ways to stop that from happening? Oh, please don't nef with something like "Pay your bills."

Actually, I think they have to present you with documentation. Sorta like a Notice of Forclosure or Reposession.

hide your car.. don't park it where it will be easily found. park at a funny angle with cars on all sides of you so that you're car couldnt be towed.


remove all your wheels and set your car up on blocks so that it couldn't be towed.

Or you could park the car at your friends house and have them drive you home. Then claim that someone must have stolen it.

Most people trying to prevent repossesion don't park the car where the person who is trying to repo it knows it will be. Ie most banks know your home and work address, don't park the car at home or work. Hide the car. Just remember, they can haul your ass into court.

they jsut did a show on this on the discovery chanel a few days ago-- the reposseres didnt find the guy or anything.. they just swiped his car while he was at work from the company parking lot.

Actualy I knew 2 people who bought really nice trucks they couldn't pay for. So they ended up traiding. When ever the bank would come to reposes the truck it was never their. They'd ask who's the other truck was and he'd just say a friends. Since they could never find the truck they could never reposes it. I woudln't try this though, you could get in some serious trouble.

No, the local police are informed after the fact by the repo company or lender. The debtor cannot collect an insurance claim.

In fact, most repoed debtors find out their property was repoed when they file a police report.

Other than hiding it, the best way is to talk to the lender. They really don't want your car, it's a pain in the a$$ for them, and they don't always get all their money back. Call them up, and see if you can work something out.

Depends upon state law. In PA a private company (as opposed to law enforcement or the Sheriff) can not proceed with a reposession if same results in a breach of the peace. Foreclosures done privately must be peaceable.

Well, I know in most states till you pay off the debt the bank legally owns the car because it is the collateral for the loan. If you don't pay they can take back their property.
