How can you make your games run *slower*?

I'm on a T-Bird 850 with 512mb of RAM on a GF2 GTS.

I pulled out some old games dating back a few years ago. Games like Airline_Tycoon and Railroad_Tycoon. They run WAY TOO FAST on my machine. Since there's no speech, you have to rely on text bubbles. The text bubbles zoom by too fast making it hard for me to read what the guy's saying.

So how can I make these games run slower so they are more enjoyable? Any help is appriciated. :)

Oh ya, and the Tycoon Games are Windows Based i think. I found a site that describes MoSlo, it's a DOS command line thing.

Yeah Airline Tycoon is Windows Based (Not DOS).

There are no "Resolution" options. I think it's required you are to play in 640x480.

Railroad Tycoon runs fine on a 450 MHz machine, just you can't use the turbo speed setting. I haven't tried it on anything faster.

"...On occations you may find that an old game runs too fast on your PC and you are unable to play the game because of that. This usually occurs when running older DOS games which where created on a PC at very low CPU rate.

Turbo is a tiny (only about 50 KB) freeware utility for Windows that slows down the CPU speed on your computer to emulate a lower CPU speed. As a warning flag, once you have activated Turbo with a reduced CPU speed, all programs running will be slowed down accordingly and not only the game that you try to run! Even games running from DOS shell (DOS mode) will be slowed down. You can at any time reset the CPU speed within Turbo to normal 100%.... "

Turbo did make my computer feel slower but the guys still talk damn fast! The text bubbles flash by a bit slower than before but it's still pretty unreadable. :(

The game itself whether the CPU is at 100% or 30% efficiency, runs fine. No one runs really fast or anything. It's only certain text bubbles, they flash by so fast. Sigh... As a matter of a fact, if I set the efficiency too low, the game itself is really really slow.

I loaded Airline Tycoon on my older P2 350 and the text bubbles load fine. They don't zoom by like it does on my T-Bird 850. Bah...:(

even at 30% it's still too fast? You probably don't want to slow it down too much more....
I'll do some thinking.

going out on a limb here, but maybe there is an option in the prefs for how long the bubbles stay up...

Even with the game set to run at the slow speed the text is too fast? Make sure you aren't hitting a mouse button as the text appears. Even a slight misclick makes them go away in Railroad Tycoon. How fast are the trains moving, at a reasonable playable speed? If I remember right there is a VGA and a MCGA setting for that game. Both looked the same but one ran faster for me...

Edit: Is it time to upgrade to Railroad Tycoon 2?

Good thread which needs some answers. I can't even play Warcraft II anymore because the slightest mouse movement scrolls way to fast even on the slowest setting. Also, alpha centauri battles and movement are way too fast.

My machine

T-Bird 1 ghz
Radeon LE

The people, the speed at which you walk, everything, it's fine. It's just the text bubbles. Some of them zoom RIGHT past you. Some are just normal. It's always the same text bubbles that zoom right by me so I doubt it's me clicking too fast.
