How can you increase your monitors refresh rate if it's not available in the display settings?

My monitor only runs with a refresh rate of 60 in 1280*1024. In the display settings there is no way to increase this.

Can you still somehow put this up to 80 or 85?

My monitor is a Hewlett Packard something-or-other (2 years old).

If it's possible, what would the consequences be and how long can you normally run a monitor without it dying when you increase the refresh rate by say 20.

Any help is appreciated.

Try installing the latest driver for your monitor, if there is one. If there's isn't a higher option under Display Settings>Advanced>Monitor, then you may have to go down a notch or two in resolution...HTH 🙂

If your video card is made by Nvidia, then you can use Rivatuner to set default refresh rates for all resolutions (works even in games).
R3D Tweak does the same for ATI.

Go to the Mfgr. website (did you say HP?... www.hp.com) and find drivers. I'm not sure if any tweaker is going to help you without it. (tweakers usually modify the .inf file of the monitor.)
