how can you have the highest payload rating?

isnt a 1/2ton truck made for 1/2 a ton of payload, 3/4ton 3/4ton payload etc.????? i dont get how ford is getting away with that advertising

chevy has a 1/2ton, 3/4ton, and 1 ton, but where does the highest payload come into play??
