How can you change the screen resolution and refresh rate?

I did a friend a favor................I reloaded Windows XP pro for him,

I did this at my home with my monitor so when he came to get the machine...............I forgot to lower the screen resolution and refresh rate (because he has an old monitor) and now, of course , all he gets is a black screen when he boots up windows.

How does one change the settings when you can't see what's on the screen?

TIA

Mark

Yup............that's what I suggested and he uninstalled the vid drivers and was able to reboot with success.
