How can you Americans actually be proud of your history?

Im proud of my history because it's mine. We did some bad stuff but Im still proud to say I'm an American. If you don't like it then stay in Canada. Problem solved.

ditto.... every country in this world at one point in its history plundered, pillaged etc.... so the history of the U.S.A. is no different, it is just the most recent in history to happen, even though it was centuries ago.

I am proud that my great grandmother and GGrandfather, came here with literally nothing, worked hard, learned the language, paid taxes, made a life for themselves without ever looking for assistance outside of their own family.

Every civilization builds upon a history of blood. Be that my history (danish) or american. I don't see anything being wrong with being proud of being an american, they've evolved into one of the most succesfull and somewhat just systems in the world.
