Hello,

Was wanting to know how can you tell if the RAM you have is Cas2 (or Cas3)?

Is there some sort of Markings or Writings on the Chips to look for?

The RAM in Question is a 128MB PC-133MHz Stick and also another 64MB of the same.

Can Anyone help me please :)
Thanks

ctspd only tells what's written in the spd.

the real speed of the chip is specified by the chip marking,
look at the marking, copy it down,
go to the manufacturer web site, look up the datasheet or use the marking decoder.

The CAS value of the DRAM under a specific freq is recorded in SPD, you may have a look at it via SANDRA2001 etc.

Actually, CAS is described in the data sheet according to the marking of the chip. And as far as I know, most DRAM chips marked "-7" can only work under 133MHZ, CAS3.

But some DRAM chips with amazing quality, such as Mosel and Siemens, can really work under 150MHz, CAS2! And then some DRAM stick manufacturer put these chips to their well designed PCB and set the CAS=2 in their SPD.

i have a stick of 256mb ram (pc 133)...and i notice that 'c2' is written on the memory chip (infenion)...does that means my ram is a cas 2 ?

I don't think 'C2' stands for CAS2, but infenion(is the spelling right?) is really good, it is manufactured by Siemens. One of the most overclockable DRAM chip in the world :)

If your motherboard allows you to manually set your RAM timings in BIOS why not set it to Cas2 and see what happens? Worst case scenario your system is unstable and you can set it back to spd or cas3.

I have 512mb of generic pc-133. I assume its cas3. But I manually set it to Cas2 and my system continued to run stable. I was also able to increase my FSB to 113. So my cheapo RAM runs fine at 150mhz CAs2.
