How can this happen? Ticketmaster/reseller BS

So, tickets for David Gilmour in LA went on sale at noon PDT on Friday. Being as this was on my bucket list, I logged into Ticketmaster at 11:50 and watched the countdown timer. When it zero, the page refreshed and I immediately tried to buy tickets. Within 2 minutes I was greeted with a no tickets available message for either general tickets or the VIP packages. I kept trying clicking and clicking and clicking but getting the same message.

Within 10 minutes, TM was returning reseller results, but none direct. I ended up getting ticket through stubhub. Im OK with the purchase price for the seats, but I know Im paying a 10% premium by using stubhub.

So my question, if anyone knows, how the hell did this happen? How did ALL the tickets become available through resellers within 15 minutes, when I was sitting there F5-ing the whole time?

It's bullshit, that's how. The system is rigged and people that make money off reselling have bots that simply buy out all the tickets they can.

I get that, but dont they use the same system I would use to buy tickets? How could NO tickets directly be available within 10 minutes? :colbert:

Oh hi, you must be new to purchasing any and all types of event tickets. Allow me to show you to the desk that you will punch the living shit out of everytime you get fucked over.

Know how to get rid of resellers? Stop buying from them. They will kick themselves in the balls 100 times when they have $10,000+ and 200 tickets to Britney Spears that they don't know what to do with.

just because a venue has, say, 1000 seats, that doesn't mean TicketMaster is actually selling all 1000 seats... the artist might get 500 right off the bat to resell themselves, 100 might be bookmarked to be given away to local radio stations for promo, the venue owner keeps 250 to resell, and next thing you know, only like 200/1000 seats are actually for sale on TM.

Botting online purchases has become a huge issue in limited availability online things. It plagues the limited release shoe market so much Nike has actually stopped selling their big releases online.

Presale is the way to go if available. I've also actually found the ticketmaster app to be much more responsive than the regular website. Plus you can bypass the captcha.

This has always been the case, and I agree.. It's absolutely bullshit. I've had this happen multiple times (Paul McCartney, Mumford and Sons, etc.). The true fans sitting at their computer to buy tickets when they go on sale get shafted. What I ended up doing for McCartney was waiting until 4 hours or so before the show - the reseller (through stubhub) knocked the price below face value because of how close the show was. If you haven't gotten tickets yet, I'd suggest this option.

Bought tickets to the OC County Fair on TM.com last night, wasn't paying attention and I got "insurance" $24 for the tickets + $13 insurance, in case I want to cancel and get my $24 back lol. It's bad enough it cost half what the tickets did, but it didn't show up on my invoice because it's billed separately. I hit submit thinking my total was $24 because of this.

Seeding how it's only 1 of 3 shows Gilmour is doing in the US and I'll be traveling to see it I'll hold on to the tickets i got. I got the ticket through stubhub for 370 and today they're selling for 650-1100!
