It's just a default apache home page...

------

Test Page
This page is used to test the proper operation of the Apache Web server after it has been installed. If you can read this page, it means that the Apache Web server installed at this site is working properly.
If you are the administrator of this website:

etc etc...

Using FF.

As others have stated, its an ip address. Its handled similarly to when you use the dotted quad format (x.x.x.x). The stack treats it has an address, not a dns name, and directly attempts to connect to it.

You tried to access the address http://0xd2406ea9/, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.
Make sure your Internet connection is active and check whether other applications that rely on the same connection are working.
Check that the setup of any Internet security software is correct and does not interfere with ordinary Web browsing.
If you are behind a firewall on a Local Area Network and think this may be causing problems, talk to your systems administrator.
Try pressing the F12 key on your keyboard and disabling proxy servers, unless you know that you are required to use a proxy to connect to the Internet. Reload the page.

It responds to http://3527437993/ as well (that hex number in decimal), but it returns a HTTP 400 code. In college one of my friends said you could get around Websense by converting an IP address to hex or decimal, but obviously the web server has to be set up to handle the request.

I don't really believe you have gained access to the system, but I seem to recall you preaching about illegally accessing a computer system with regard to open wireless routers... seems a little hypocritical if you're getting into some mischief here. ;)

What? I'm just knocking on the door to see if anybody is home. Plus it's on a PUBLIC network so it's fair game.

To expand:

IP addresses are just more human readable forms of 32 bit integers.

You can take an IP, convert it to a number and use that to. It has nothing to do with firefox. This is how IP addresses work.

It's also an old workaround for when your company filters out web sites. Look up the IP and convert to an integer and use that. Usually works. Not anymore though. The filter software is smarter these days.

As long as you think about and understand what you are doing (and why) you should be OK.
