I think you need documentation proving it's a "service animal". For example, per DOT rules, airlines can ask travelers with emotional-support animals to produce a letter from a mental-health professional certifying that the passenger is under care and that having the animal accompany the passenger is necessary.

Uhhh what "service' would that chihuahua (excellent spelling OP) be doing in a basket?
This can't be a serious question at all can it?

Maybe it's because people might need their seeing eye dog but you can get along without a pet for a few minutes?

Also, service animals are typically very well trained, usually professionally, and are less likely to cause problems.

Perhaps because people don't want their service animals eaten? :p

Service animals are not just dogs that happen to be pets. They are carefully selected and trained and not all breeds can be service animals because of temperament . Labs are generally chosen because they are the #1 breed in safety near strangers and children.

Service animals enable humans. Humans are important. Leave your chihuahua at home in its bowl/cage/your handbag/whatever.

The strange thing is that there isn't necessarily anything "official" that makes an animal a service animal. I was doing some ADA research a while back and came across some of the guidelines for airlines and other businesses and found that rather odd.

You know JEDI, I'm glad you're a member of this forum. If you weren't, I probably would not get my daily allowance of facepalm in.
