You can shift gears when you need the power, not have to slam on the gas pedal and wait for the automatic transmission to change gears. I love stick shift and will never buy automatic. I guess everyone has their own prefrence. Oh yeah and Manuals cost about 2 grand less than the auto![]()

I don't understand why people would want to drive a stick shift. I can barley stand all the work that goes into driving an automatic now that my cruise control went out. Can anyone enlighten me on this topic?

Are you one of those people who can't stay at a constant speed without using their cruise control?
Also, there are just times when you don't want to be bothered. I like to just sit back and relax while driving...

I hate not having cruise control. I used to be able to daydream and think about whatever I wanted to think about. Now I have to look at the gas gage like every couple of minutes. It is horrible, its like living in hell. I can't even sit how I like now because I have to have my foot by the pedal all the time.
I hear that man, when I'm driving, the last thing I want to think about is piloting my vehicle.I used to be able to daydream
Wow tell me about it. I like to cross my legs, put them on the dash, or even sometimes stretch out over the passenger seat, without cruise control that stupid gas pedal, and even more useless brake pedal are in my way.It is horrible, its like living in hell. I can't even sit how I like now because I have to have my foot by the pedal all the time.
Its dangerous, only stuntmen should do that. How can people stand driving manuals?

That is an amazingly strange comment for such a car enthusiast. I guess I just love driving, not riding with one toe on the gas and one finger on the steering wheel.
I hate, hate, hate automatic transmissions, and I honestly can't imagine owning one, other than in a truck I intended to use for towing, or for a suburban cruiser when I am an old codger. I experimented with owning my first car with an automatic a couple of years ago and I detested driving it. I pray that the prevalence of cell phones does not drive out the availability of manual transmissions in relatively ordinary cars (like my Maxima SE).
Well, there's only but so much you can do when you drive a Camry, Highlander, and F-150. So I prefer to just sit back and relax when driving those vehicles.

Well, I can relate to that to a point, but I had a LOT of fun driving my '84 Accord with 206,000 miles when I was in law school - a stick can make even a very plebian car fun to drive.
