I'm sure quite a few of you have gone into an electronics retail store and seen
reps from various companies there at certain times.

For example, HP reps, Apple Reps, etc.

I was wondering if anyone knows how anyone can get a job doing that?
I've googled and looked through Intel's website but can't find anything.
It's like it's a forbidden topic or something.

Any ideas on how one can get in on this?

I did this type of job in college. I found the job thru a friend. I think it's typically a word-of-mouth type thing.

I imagine with the shitty economy it will be harder to find that type of job.

There are marketing companies that get hired by each of those brands that in turn hire people, 'train' them and have them to travel to stores to stand around near the company's products. There are a couple of exceptions: I believe Intel and AMD hire their reps directly.

Next time you see one of these reps, approach them, talk them up a little and ask what the name of the company they work for is. There is no reason they should refuse to tell you.

Yep...I used to work a couple of those jobs before moving up the marketing chain, so to speak. Most reps will be happy to give you the name of their company and probably their manager too.

One thing that you need to know is that typically the hours aren't that great and pay caps out at like $15-20/hr. Depending on the company that you work for, you might have quotas to hit. You'll become friends with store staff and other reps since you'll see the same people all over the place.
