What I found works well, if you got a big one and dont want guts everywhere, is picking up one of their legs with tweezers. Then you throw them in the toilet and laugh histerically while watching them get flushed.

It was explained to me that the spray clogs up their airpassages. It's not poison as far as I understood. How would an arachnid differ from insects in the way they breathe ?

Have you actually read the can to see if it kills spiders? It seems to me like you haven't.
