How can it be that torture is bad but killing innocent people and labeling them as "collateral damage" is ok

Just an honest question..

Torture one person and there is outrage.. Kill a few hundred innocent people and do billions of dollars in damage to a whole civilization and it is ok as long as you label it "war" and "collateral damage"

Just seems odd... I will stop before I give emotional input that derails the topic

Torture is against international law, but 'collateral damage' in certain circumstances in a conflict/war is not in violation of international law.

Why do you feel that blowing up schoolbusses, blowing themselves up in markets and indiscriminately launching rockets at residential areas is ok Dahunan?

Kadarin, RichardE and JEDIYoda

So you use that to excuse the murdering of hundreds of people, wounding thousands of people and putting a million through war, destruction and despair.

'merica is allowed to blow up civillians on accident. Like when they clusterbombed a farmer's market in my father's hometown. "Military target" / "oops" my ass.

I guess it's harder to feign that you "accidentally" tortured someone though.

This war sucks on both sides but what do you think the US would do if Canada or Mexico were shooting missiles across the border at citizen in the US?

that comparison only works if you add that the US had roadblocks all over Canada, had control of the borders around Canada, had driven maybe 1/3 of the current Canadian population from the US into Canada, handled the tax collection for Canada, had low flying jets breaking the sound barrier over population centers constantly, ... and so on, more or less subjected the whole country through utter humiliation for 40 years

Now you realy should be asking, are you surprised they are fighting back when the status quo of the situation is as described above?

Just an honest answer,

I find it torture to have to read the 15 different threads you have made saying the same thing.

Collateral damage is an unavoidable consequence of war. Thus, as long as reasonable measures are taken to limit collateral damage, I feel that the side that provoked the war is responsible for those lives.

Torture is a willful and unnecessary action.
