How can I use a remote w/ a TV tuner card?

If my TV tuner card was, for example, an ATI TV Wonder, what kind of solution could I use to be able to use some type of remote control with it?

Buying a SB Live! Platinum might do it, but my wallet is afraid of said idea. Any other way of getting this functionality to work?
