How can I upgrade my case fans?

I just recently finished OCing my T-bird 1.4g to 1.6g and it is now on the verge of complete meltdown (60 degrees full load). I'd like to bring down the temps a little so I thought I'd try and upgrade my case fans. I have an Antec 1040 with 2 Antec stock fans and 2 Silencer fans. Since my Papst HSF is churning at a soothing 43dB, I thought that I could probably get a more powerful case fan and not increase the noise my box is making. If I were to exchange my 20dB Silencers and Antec fans for say 30dB Sunon fans, would I hear any difference in noise with my HSF blazing away? Thanks.

The Antec case has good air flow and it sounds like you have a good setup on yours. I tried 92mm high speed fans in the front of my Antec case and it didn't run any cooler than having low speed 80mm Panaflos in there. So it sounds like you need to upgrade your cpu heatsink to me. I have a Alpha 8045 and a YS Tech 80mm 48.5cfm fan, which is quiet on my 1700+ XP cpu overclocked to a 1800+ and my cpu temps are 34C right now after my system has been on for a couple of hours. Remember if you have a Asus board your temps will read higher than on most other motherboards because of the way they report the cpu temps.

Before you make any changes to your case you need to determine where the heat problem is. Do you know the room temperature and case temperature? If they are close to each other (2 C) then the problem is your HSF. If there is a wide gap then you need to figure out how to get better air flow in your case. My suspicion is that your case is fine. You are overclocking a CPU that already runs very hot. Those temps may be normal under your conditions.
