How can i underclock my cpu?

There should be a tab called FID/VID that has the multiplier and voltage settings.

something tells me, if you own an HP, your trying to UNDERCLOCK, you dont know how to look in bios, and you ask for help w/out giving your computer specs, that you have no idea what you are doing. IE. You probably reinstalled thermal paste+heatsink wrong. IE you didnt take the old paste off (ill bet ya 100$ you didnt).

Anyway, i think your best bet is to check ur warranty, its a new chip so it should still be under warranty. If its not, go to a computer store, get a computer literate friend to apply new thermal paste IE artic silver to your CPU and apply the heatsink. Also make sure ur fan is running optimal. Also, ask the person at the computer store to check your temps w/ a meter. Your mothercard could be reading your temps wrong since a new heatsink w/ aftermarket thermal paste should run your cpu COOL.

Also never buy HP!

You should be able to lower the multiplier with the program found here: http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml

I use it on my Dell (which has no decent BIOS options either) and I am able to run it at underclocked speeds and lower voltages. Good luck!

Xodus, I need to ask you a few Qs:

How hot is the cpu running? How do you know it's overheating? Do you have instability, etc?

Remember that you need to use very little thermal compound when seating the cpu. So clean it up very well (with 90% alcohol) and put about a rice-grain's worth of thermal compound on top of the heatspreader, then just sit your Heatsink on top of it (no need to spread the paste).

Its probably socket 754 because the 3200+ is at 2.2 and HP only offers socket 754 amds I think. Also, how is it overheating? Whats your temp? A max temp is of 57 I'd say would be fine on a newcastle/clawhammer.

anyhow, a lot of prebuilt systems don't give you the option of playing around with the cpu settings.

Also it could have been a Newcastle. They run 200 mhz higher than the Winchesters/Venices.

If your HP computer is overheating, something is wrong with the heatsink. It needs to be reseated or something.

What i said was only helpful.. if he listens to my directions he would get this fixed for less than 50$ (if it costs anything at all ) and he can have it fixed tomorrow! It all depends on how long u wanna wait
