How can I turn my 2006 core duo MBP into a streaming video server

Hi everyone,

I need to figure out a way to use my MBP as a dog-watching monitor. Our regular baby monitor is not working anymore and instead of buying a new one just for the dog I thought I might be able to use my MBP's built-in iSight camera. Ideally, I'd like to be able to use a web browser from my phone and stream the feed from the MBP.

Does anyone know of an easy, and preferably free, app for accomplishing this? I checked the app store and all I could find was apps that required 64-bit platforms which unfortunately is not the case with my machine :(

Thanks in advance!

Install 10.6 or later and Facetime on it. Or Skype, or whatever. (Depending on what will run on your phone, computer, or other monitoring device.)

Set it to automatically accept incoming calls from people you specify. (Yourself, presumably.) and block everybody else.

Then just call it with your phone, other computer, etc., when you want to see what's going on. You can use iCloud / Back to My Mac / Remote Access services to toggle sound on and off, etc.

You can also get wifi security cameras for like $100 that would do the job, and be a little safer to mount, etc. If this is really the only thing you have to use the MBP for, you can probably sell it, buy a camera, and turn a couple hundred bucks profit.

thanks! i have 10.6.8 installed and skype also already installed so i'll try this out tonight when i get home. there is no sound requirement as i can hear the puppy from the bedroom. i just need to determine when he's sitting up and when he's sleeping.
