How can I transfer some shows from my DVR to my computer?

a video capture card/device, but the hdmi will most likely kick in hdcp preventing it. usually component is used for this, its only 480 thoug

I use my computer to put the movies into digital files that I save on my NAS. I use Akrock to rip the discs. If you want to capture over the air broadcasts, you can add a tv card to the PC and add an antenna or a cable input, save the shows on the HD or SSD and upload them to your NAS.

Op was asking about getting recorded shows off his DVR, which is encrypted.

Yes, I answered that it is better to use a PC to record the shows and toss the DVR in the trash bin because it is encrypted and low res that gets upscaled.
