I want to match up to my existing 8800 GTS 640meg. There is a BFG 550 Mhz model and a BFG 500 Mhz model. how do I identify which one I have?

You can open your Nvidia Control Panel, look under "Adjust GPU Settings" and see the current clock speeds of your card.
If Stock GTS's come at 500MHz, I would think your O/C model would be greater than that. So 550 sounds more likely. Just check to make sure.

You can also check the sticker on the back of your GTS to get the exact model of your card. That would probably be the best thing to do.

should be a label on the back of the card with the model number, you could sli with any other 8800gts 640 they don't have to match

Are you helpless and clueless? lol. According to their website there are 550mhz and 580mhz versions. there is no 500mhz 8800gts from BFG. Also like someone already said just look at your clockspeed in the control panel. How you could not figure that out for yourself is beyond me.

Nvidia Control panel gives 3 options
1. 3D settings - which breaks into Adjust image settings with preview and Manage 3D settings, neither of which shows clock speed.

2. Display which only addresses display options for the monitor.

3. Video & Television - which only addresses video options pretaining to television.

Checking the card reveals the following stickers

BFGR88640GTSOCE

600-10356-0001-100r

90010356-0001 101F

As far as I can tell none of this gives the clock speed. Can anyone suggest a utility to manage the clockspeed... other than toyota?

you should have a "performance" tab and under that will be "adjust gpu settings". click on that and it will show the clock and fan settings. you might have to have ntune installed which is no big deal.

Well I guess he has the 550mhz version. I got caught up in trying to have him find his performance settings in the control panel. Hopefully he can find them after he installs Ntune. ;)

There should be insta-ban for people like you. Help the guy. Don't berate him.

Well what did you contribute besides trying to start trouble? BTW I did actually helped him. He has a good pc and posts here often enough and didnt even know where his clock settings were in the control panel. I thought it was funny and was just kind of picking on him in my first reply.

At least not anymore remember Nvidia put out a ban at first on Factory OC cards at launch. So the first one's out the gate from BFG were indeed stock clocked 500MHZ cores.

To my knowledge the clockspeed tab is not available without Coolbits typically or has that issue changed? So if true, most people wouldn't have the clockspeed in the driver panels to begin with.

they are the Nvidia control panel with Ntune installed. the op already installed Ntune and found the clocks settings. coolbits doesnt work with Vista and personally I miss it because it was so simple.

There are a lot of ways I could respond to this, but I'll keep it simple. Don't ever let me see you talking to me this way. There are places for condesending people like you & this forum isn't one of them.

If you think you have something meaningful to offer, then do it, otherwise keep your mouth shut.

For the record it wasn't readily available through Nvidia Control Panel as you can see from my posted pic. I asked because I'd hoped that someone may have some insight on where to look that I wasn't looking. In the end we got there. To be honest, this is the first time I've had any issue on Anandtech. It's typically a really helpful site, and I would include this time as well despite the mild ribbing... it's all good. Thanks everyone.

I'm very surprised to see people here supporting this type of condesending attitude & behavior towards our fellow members...We had a gentleman asking a simple question & someone wants to make them feel like a complete idiot because they asked a question...That's not what this forum is about...

And as far as me being threatening, no, but did I make sure I got my point across about him being condesending towards me, well from his response, it looks like I did.
