How can I tell what my Network transfer speed is?

It takes about 20 minutes to transfer a 4GB movie file from one computer to the other over my SMC 7004BR network. I was thinking that this was a little slow, but then again I don't know very much about it.

That would be like 3.3 MB/s. That is a little slow compared to the 12 supposed max. I dont think anyone gets the max though. I think I average 5 or 6 over my Dlink router. The speed of the computers and the OS can have a major effect on your transfer speeds.

Download Qcheck from NetIQ.

It'll give you throughput, latency, and packet drop. It's a (way) scaled-down version of Chariot, a well-established benchmarking tool. We use it in our Lab, it's a wunnerful thing.

Good Luck
