The title says it, I just bought a retail 700 from a show. It came in the box , but how does someone tell if its retail or oem since the heatsink anf fan arent connected when its new.
the reason why I ask is because I was looking at oems a vendor had in a box....he had phillipines and malaysia in there with these numbers:sl45xx I think.
My retail has Sl45Y on it philipines. Im going to put it in ,y p3v4x now and see what it can do:)

Is there some kind of mark or different stamp on the retails as opposed to the oems?

Well, for one thing the box should be factory sealed if it's retail. If it's not sealed then I suspect that the CPU has been tested /traded. You'd have to be pretty sneaky to wrap boxes so that they looked like a factory seal.

The number on your chip is a retail version. (PIII 700E FC-PGA cB0)
