How can I tell if the processor in my laptop is properly throttling the frequency

I have a HP TC1100 tablet latptop with a Pentium M 1Ghz processor.

When I first got it, I recall that when I'd look at the processor summary in the "System" page (under the control panel), the actual frequency would usually be a lot lower than the rated 1Ghz frequency.

Since then, I've installed all the WinXP service packs, etc.

Now, when I look at the summary, the processor seems to always be at 996Mhz (this is with nothing much running and %cpu used only a few percent).

Battery life seems pretty mediocre, too.

Is there any way to determine is speedstep is properly implemented? Could all the service packs/updates have somehow messed with the power consumption stuff?

(Power scheme is laptop, as it has always been. I don't seen any options there specifically relating to the processor).

Thanks

Using the system page is unreliable at best; Windows has known issues with properly reporting clock speeds on there.

Download Notebook Hardware Control and install that. It gives you complete control over your Pentium M

Thanks for that tip!

Notebook Hardware Control is a great app...and with it I can see that my processor is actually throttling back to 600mhz when it should...

NHC is also great for keeping track of your battery, etc.

Thanks again...
